18 OCTOBER – 1 DECEMBER 2019
Sydney based artist Sassy Park undertook a Hill End Artist in Residency in May 2019, where she was struck with gold fever. With the help of a local guide, Park found a gold nugget on her first panning trip to Tambaroora Creek. The search for gold shapes much of the history of Hill End. The ‘Holtermann Nugget’ – the largest mass of gold ever found – was discovered in the area in 1872. With the fortune he made from it Bernhardt Holtermann commissioned a photographic record of the people of Hill End. Using the Holtermann Collection as a reference point, Park has created a series of ceramics responding to her time at Hill End.
