Jock Alexander: Of This Place
17 October– 6 December 2020
A descendent of several colonial families, Oberon-born, Bathurst-based multidiscipline artist Jock Alexander cites connecting with the local Wiradyuri as a crucial aspect of his life and practice. His appreciation of the Central West, particularly of Mount Panorama/Wahluu, is a source of intellectual and spiritual inspiration with which he seeks to address the region’s colonial history and its legacy.
In 1983, Alexander graduated from the National Art School, Sydney, with a Bachelor of Visual Art degree, and for the past 25 years he has supported his painting, music and filmmaking practices by creating illustrations and political cartoons for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian newspapers. He works in plein air and in the studio, using both traditional European media and locally sourced material, including raw earths and eucalypt and wattle gums.
