Spring School Holidays Animation Activity

20210915 093015Untitled 220210915 091615

Until 19 November

Step into Spring and explore fun animation techniques creating a wonderful wall projection animation.

Choose a simple printable template such as a person walking, a butterfly flying, or a blooming flower, and draw your own design over the top. The templates are broken into individual images, creating a short moving animation.

A traceable guide in animation is a useful element to ensure realistic movements and proportions are correct for animated objects. Think of a guide like a skeleton for a person, they are the same on the inside, but are different and unique on the outside.

The final drawings will be photographed and sent to BRAG to be animated and included in a collaborative springtime project. The video will be projected at night into the BRAG/Library forecourt on the new outdoor projector.

Materials needed:

  • black (or dark coloured) texta, pen, or pencil. A regular graphite/lead pencil will also work. (rubber if you want to use)
  • Pieces of paper
  • Camera (or phone with a camera)
  • Optional: Computer, printer and scanner.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Using the provided templates:

1. Download one of the templates below.

2. Print off the template onto an A4 piece of paper (or trace from the screen onto your paper).

3. Trace over the template with your own design.

4. Scan or photograph your drawing and upload it to the dropbox here

5. Your drawing will be included into a collaborative night time projection in the gallery forecourt. You will be notified when it is on display.

Creating your own animation:

1. Using a blank piece of paper, divide the page into 8 pieces.

2. Draw your own springtime character. Some ideas could be a sun, a tree growing, native animals e.g. possum, flowers blooming, rain cloud, birds flying, birds singing, etc.

3. Draw up to 8 frames of your animation. If you can't figure out how to make it move, you can also draw 8 copies of the same picture. This will create a 'wiggle' animation, like the 'Spring school holidays' animation at the top of this page.

4. Scan or photograph your drawing and upload it to the dropbox here

5. Your drawing will be included into a collaborative night time projection in the gallery forecourt. You will be notified when it is on display.
